Balm for Windburn and Chapped Skin

Wind takes moisture off your face faster than summer sun ever will. If you work outside, ride, hunt, or just live through a Midwest January, you know the feeling: tight, red, stinging cheeks that lotion barely touches.

What windburn actually is

Cold, moving air strips the thin layer of natural oil that holds water in your skin. Once that barrier is gone, moisture leaves fast and the skin below gets raw and reactive. The fix isn't more water (that's what lotion mostly is). The fix is putting the barrier back.

Why a tallow balm works here

Tallow's fats are close cousins of the oils your skin just lost, and the beeswax in our balm holds them in place against the wind instead of wearing off in an hour. It's the same logic ranchers and sailors ran on for generations: seal the skin before the weather gets to it.

How to use it

  • Before exposure: a thin layer on cheeks, nose, lips-adjacent skin, and ears before you head out. Prevention beats repair.
  • After: wash gently, pat dry, apply a bit more generously and leave it alone overnight.
  • Works over a beard and on the skin underneath it too.

Which tin

Any scent works; if your face is already angry, go with Raw (unscented) and keep it simple. Every tin is made by hand in small batches in Wakarusa, Indiana.
