No. Beard balm is a leave-in. You put it on and you leave it there. It is not a mask or a treatment you rinse out, and rinsing it out would defeat the entire point of using it.
Why it stays in
Balm does two jobs, and both need time. The tallow and shea absorb into the skin under your beard, which happens over minutes to hours, not seconds. The beeswax stays nearer the surface and slows moisture leaving the skin for the rest of the day. Wash it out and you have paid for both and used neither.
So how does it come off?
On its own, gradually. Some absorbs, some wears off on your hands and collar through the day, and whatever is left goes the next time you wash your beard. You do not need to plan for it or strip it out.
Then how often should you wash your beard?
Two or three times a week is plenty for most people, with warm water rinses in between. Beard skin is dry to begin with because the hair is wicking oil off it, and washing daily with something that cuts oil makes the underlying problem worse.
Use a beard wash or a gentle bar, not scalp shampoo. Scalp shampoo is engineered to strip oil from a scalp that produces plenty of it. Your beard skin is not in that situation.
The order that works
- Wash the beard (two or three times a week, not daily).
- Towel down until damp, not dripping.
- Warm the balm in your palms until it goes to oil.
- Work it in against the grain, down to skin, then style with the grain.
- Leave it alone until the next wash.
If it feels like something you want to wash out
That is a dosage signal, not a rinse signal. Balm should disappear into the beard within ten minutes or so. If it still feels heavy, waxy, or greasy after that, you used too much or you did not warm it enough before it went in. Both are fixed tomorrow morning with less product and ten more seconds between your palms.

What about before bed?
Leave it in. Overnight is when the skin gets the longest uninterrupted stretch to absorb it, and a lot of people find their beard behaves better the next morning for having had balm in it all night. If you are worried about a pillowcase, use less.
