Can You Use Tallow Balm All Over Your Body?

Yes, and one tin does genuinely replace three or four products. The reason most people do not use it everywhere is cost and thickness rather than anything about whether it works.

Where it works well

  • Hands. The most common use after beards, and the one people keep buying it for.
  • Face. A pea for the whole face, at night. More here.
  • Under a beard, which is the driest skin most people have.
  • Heels, elbows, knees, where thick skin needs something that gets in.
  • Cuticles and nail edges.
  • Shins and forearms in winter.
  • Tattoos, once healed. Fresh ones are your artist's call, not mine.

Where it is the wrong tool

  • Large areas, every day. You can absolutely use it on your whole body. You will also go through a tin a week and it will cost a fortune. For legs and arms after a shower, a cheaper body butter makes more sense and I would rather say so.
  • Very oily skin. You may simply not need it on your face.
  • Anywhere you need it to absorb in ten seconds. It is a fat, it takes a few minutes.
  • As a sunscreen. It is not one and has no SPF.
  • Anywhere broken, weeping or infected. That is a doctor's question.

The practical way to use one tin for everything

Use it where nothing else works and use something cheap where anything works. That usually means balm on hands, face, beard, heels and cuticles, and an ordinary lotion on legs and arms. That is how most people who own a tin end up using it, and it is why a 2oz tin lasts as long as it does.

Use less than you think everywhere. Warmed between your palms first, a fingertip covers both hands and a pea covers a face.

One caution worth stating

Test a small area first if you have reactive skin, and remember fragrance is the most common cause of a reaction to any skincare product. Raw has none.
